
Fort Lauderdale
Fort Lauderdale is located on the coast of southeast Florida,approximately 37 kilometers north of Miami. The Atlantic Ocean forms its eastern border, and the New River flows through it.
It is often referred to as the Venice of America. Water taxis travel nearly 270 kilometers of waterways winding through the city. They pick up and deliver passengers from and to homes, clubs, restaurants, and a variety of attractions.
Visitors may dive or snorkel on live coral reefs year-round, sail and boat in the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway, shop or attend a variety of cultural and recreational activities. See "Things to Do in Fort Lauderdale" to read about a few of them.
Two airports serve Fort Lauderdale -- an executive airport and the Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport.

The U.S. Census Bureau estimates that 183,600 people were living in Fort Lauderdale in 2007. The city is a popular tourist destination, and serves southeast Florida as a major center of activities for people owning yachts.
