Business in Russia: Infrastructure Construction
"The time is right to begin a major push now." That's what the man said.
Ed Verona -- he's the President and CEO of the US-Russia Business Council in Washington, D.C. -- mentioned that the USRBC has been talking about Russia's infrastructure development during small discussions and panels over the past few years, but that "the time is right to begin a major push now" on this fundamental pillar of President Medvedev's government program as Russia emerges from the economic crisis.
The USRBC commissioned global infrastructure expert Norman Anderson to look into things, and Anderson concluded that Russia "should be one of the largest and most dynamic infrastructure markets in the world over the next fifteen years."
Anderson's report was delivered about a month ago to members of the USRBC. Government and private sector estimates indicate that the amount of infrastructure investment needed in Russia - just in the next decade - will range from US$830 billion to US$1 trillion.
"It goes without saying that this will be a tremendous undertaking that will require the close cooperation of the public and private sectors," Verona was quoted as saying in an article published by PRNewswire via COMTEX.
