Russian 2010-2012 Privatization Plan is moving forward
Russia's state property privatization plan for 2010 and 2012 is progressing according to plan. The privatization program is coordinated by the Russian Property Ministry of Economic Development, which publishes annual data on privatized state institutions or companies owned or partly owned by the State. In 2010, the list of items to be privatized includes approximately 250 plants, almost 700 companies, and other assets including buildings, land and other properties.
The order in which assets are to be privatized begins with industry, then construction, agriculture, transportation and traffic, then telecommunications companies and institutions. The privatization program also includes airports, ports, insurance and financial institutions
The goal is to privatize state economic structures and improve efficiency, attract internal investment and strengthen state revenues. Foreign investors are also expected to invest in various assets.
According to a June report in PrimeTass, the Russian government may also privatize several sea and river ports and shipping companies in 2010–2011, including the Murmansk and Novorossiisk commercial seaports, the Tolmachevo, Koltsovo, and Anapa airports, and shipping company Sovcomflot.
